Officer fatally shot at Austin Walmart
Officer was responding to 911 call
A police officer was fatally shot at a Walmart in Austin Texas on Friday when he responded to a 911 call about an intoxicated man roaming around in the store. According to Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo the officer responded to the 911 call around 2:30 am and was engaged in a fight as soon as he approached the suspect. The suspect pulled out a semi automatic gun and shot the officer in the neck area.
Officer dies at the scene
The shot officer was able to radio for help and two Walmart employees were able to subdue the shooter and keep him until the police arrived. According to Acevedo a second officer and EMS arrived on the scene and both tried to revive the injured officer on the scene however he succumbed to his injuries. Chief Acevedo did not release the name of the slain officer however he did confirm that he is survived by two daughters aged 6 and 10. The shooter is currently in police custody and is expected to be charged later in the day. City Manager Mark Ott addressed the shocked community and said that they had lost a member of their family.
